Garth and Sid took an early morning bike ride to the
patisserie and came back with bread and almond croissants. The lock keeper had told us he would be there
at 8:05 and sure enough he showed up right on time. We were on our way and
arrived in Sens bright and early. We meet a Welsh couple, Jenny and Roger, as soon as we landed. They gave us the low down on where the stores were , where the
laundry mat was but because it was Sunday there was not a lot happening.
However, Roger mentioned that there was a luminaries spectacular at the church
tonight - The cathedral of Saint- Etienne - Deva ju ! It was the luminaries spectacular at the
Cathedral of Saint Etienne in Auxerre that we all went to and just about died
of boredom at.
Garth and I headed for the laundry, Terri and George went on
a walk about, Frank, Carrie, Sid and Evelyn went bike riding, Judy and Doug
went in search of food and Gene and Ginny were checking out the internet.
When we finished we headed up to the city centre in search of
a mid day menu. The pickins were pretty slim but we managed to find a delicious
Veal Marsala for lunch. Gene and Ginny joined us and then we all went into the
Cathedral. It is pretty cool, there was an organist practicing for a free concert
and the acoustics were awesome.
We saw
several posters advertising the Spectacle - starts at 10 pm and is 20 minutes
long! To take the chance or not?? We all
debated on what to do as we needed to get up early the next day and we knew it
was going to be a very long day. The waitress
where Carrie and Frank were having lunch explained that this was an additional
show just for tonight because it had been so popular. It was free so all we had
to lose this time was a bit of sleep. We all planned our day around it .
When
we rounded the corner and caught a glimpse of the square we could see that
there were quite a few people. When we rounded the next corner the square was
brimming with people! We managed to get a table for
ten, all had a beverage and sat back waiting for the spectacular event to
begin. The signs were all positive, tons of people, nice evening and comfie
chairs. Already it was better than Auxerre. At 10 pm sharp the show
started........
To be continued with full details of the show but right now it is hot, the sun is beating down on me and I cannot see the screen on the computer.
