Chateau de Fountainebleau

September 3rd

We had actually wanted to visit here on the 2nd but it is France and it was closed on Tuesday - why, because it is France. We hired a mini bus and all twelve of us went for the day. It took all morning to complete the audio guided tour. We went for lunch throughout the town and then some of us did the gardens in the afternoon. Garth, Gene and I took the horse drawn buggy ride to the end of the canal and back. Sid bought a book on Napoleon and will be filling us all in on our french history within the next week I hope.

The who's who of French Royalty all had a hand in building Fountaineblue - the first chateau was built in 1137,  Francois I had it rebuilt in 1528, Henry the II, Henry the IV, Louis XIII, Louis XV and Napoleon III all contributed to the opulence we can see today.

Just a small section of the front entrance
